First Person Shooters and Their Affects

Most parents, think first person shooters are bad for their kids and are the reasons for school shootings. So lets see the effects of first person shooters on kids and if the parent who think they’re bad are right.

Now most parents say that the people involved with schools shooting were affected with first person shooter when they played them but that is not known instead it could and most likely was: drugs illegal and allowed, bad life at home, and bulling. Now lets take a closer look at some of these reasons. Lets first talk about illegal drugs. Since there are a lot of gangs that use illegal drugs most teens could easily get some if they are in gangs this could make the person more violent. But even if the child is not in a gang it is still possible to have drugs that could make a person more violent for example depression drugs these are known to make a person more violent. What about bad life at home well if the kid is used and abused by (his hers) parent this could be of the person wants to hurt the parent that hurts (him her) but since the parent is going to easily just punish the kid. So instead the kids take (his or her) wrath on kids at school or other people at school and not. It is almost the same way with bulling if the kid is hurt by the bully that kid will most of the time want to hurt him back so the kid brings a gun to school shoots the bully and hurts or kills other people while (he or she) is at it.

But if you only look at the bad side of things you get the wrong idea so lets see some good things about first person shooters. First the reaction time is increased with people you play first person shooters this is helpful with driving and other things. The people who play these games also can do problems faster then others and still have the same amount of accuracy and as people who don’t play first person shooters.

Here are some studies done by two university’s on this subject.

In 1961 a study done by Stanford University scientist found out that kids who watched adults be violent would be more likely to do violent things. Here is what the scientist did to find this out. First the put some preschoolers in a room with toys after a small amount of time a adult came in the room and sat in a corner with a 3 foot tall Bobo clown doll. The adult then would start to do violent thing with the doll while saying thing like “sock him in the nose” or pow. After that the kids where sent to another room where they’re were some new toys but only after two minutes a lab assistant said that those toys where her best toys and so the kids were sent to another room with: crayons, dart guns, a tea set, a mallet, and three foot tall Bobo doll. Since the kids were mad about having new toys taken from them some of the preschools who had watched Bobo get punched and hit, they where more likely to attack the doll (of course Bobo dolls are fun to just knock over any way). So it is true that watching people attack something could make you more violent of course this doesn’t mean people it could be video games but it still doesn’t mean it is just video games fault.

What about desensitizing could first person shooters do that well a study done by the University of Bonn thing that maybe the case here is what the did. They first took 21 people ranging from 20-30 and got them to play first person shooters for 15 hours a week versus 19 people who had zero experience with first person shooters. They people who played first person shooters for 15 hours a week were after they played were showed pictures of disasters and violence. The people who played first person shooters showed that after they played the games and were showed the pictures didn’t react to it as much as the people who didn’t play the first person shooters. But DR. Montag (one of the scientist) said that they’re was some desensitizing even in the people who hadn’t played first person shooters after they were showed the pictures.

Now don’t take this as true since this is not confirmed but if the game is very realistic and if they are reminded that war is not a game then they could see just as bad war really is.

So as you can see this could go both ways it could end up with the kid getting better at thing or if the kid does dumb/crazy things it could possibly end up with a killer.

End of the Year Review

Today I will review this entire year for 6 grade history and then what I liked and disliked about the class.

We first learned about Creation, The Flood, and the Tower of Babel. Then moved on to Abraham and after that we did Egypt and how Abraham’s family and the Israelite eventually settled and fled Egypt. Later we also studied the divided kingdoms of Israel and Judea.

Next we learned about the empires of Assyria, Babylon, and Persia.

Then we looked at Greece and its history and culture. We also looked at Alexander the Great how he conquered most of the known world and then died at the age of 32. Some notable points during for the Greeks include the Persian wars and the battle of Marathon.

Then we studied the most powerful empire every, Rome. We also studied their culture and government and the emperors. Some of the notable moments of the history of Rome are the year of four emperors, the splitting of the empire into two, and the fire of Rome.

We then quickly look at North America, South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia and how these cultures weren’t has advanced as the rest of the world since they had to travel to get to those areas. But they also had some very impressive stuff like the earth mounds made by the Nazca Indians.

I liked most of this class this year for example I like the wars we learned about since that is very interesting to me. The only thing I didn’t like was that it wasn’t set in the modern period. Which I like to learn about because of WW2 and other wars that I find interesting.

The Battle of Marathon

The battle of Marathon took place in 490 BC at The Bay of Marathon. The Persians fleet had entered the bay planning to use it as a place to attack Athens. But the Athenian army blocked the exits from the field of Marathon where the Persians had set up camp. The battle of Marathon began with 5 days of nothing but stalemate, and after those 5 days the Persians began to load back on to their ships. The Athenians thought that this would be a great time to strike so the attacked quickly. The Persians lost around 6400 men compered to the Athenians losing only 192 soldiers.

After the battle the Athenians marched home so that the Persians didn’t land on any other shores. This battle made the Persians return to Persia to come up with a new plan to invade Greece.

The battle is also known for two reasons the first being about the legend of the runner of Marathon. The story is about how a Greek runner ran the 26 miles to Athens to tell the people about the victory. Once he got to Athens he said “We’ve won” and then died. Two because it marked the decline of the Persian empire and the rise of the Greek empire.

The Fall of the Roman Empire

The Romans built up the greatest empire of the ancient world, and possibly ever. But then it was destroyed by some barbarians who didn’t have the same military strength as the Romans. So what happened? Well the empire was having a huge power struggle. Every time a new emperor came to the throne a rival showed up as well. However that wasn’t the only problem. Rome was having a economic crisis at the time and it was from a odd reason. Let me explain, if Rome didn’t get new colonies then it lost its imports that was a huge problem since food could become scarce along with other items the Romans would want to have. As well as these reasons the culture of Rome was very debauched. For example the games where you watched people die. The people were also getting lazy since the emperors would give out free food. Then people didn’t have to work. So as you can see this was the perfect time for the barbarians to attack.

The last Roman emperor was Romulus Augustulus 460 AD-476 AD (though he may have still been alive in 507 AD). He began his reign in 476 AD, but he only ruled for 11 1/2 months. We don’t know much about him and he ruled for such a short time that we don’t have a marble bust have him in fact the only picture of him that we have is from a coin. It is not known what happened to him after he was dethroned except that he was allowed to leave alive.

So while the Romans would become the ancient worlds biggest empire it fell, after too much strain on its borders, problems with the culture, and a ton of weak emperors.

How Meteorologist Forecast the Weather

While there are multiple ways to forecast the weather today I am going to focus on remote sensing.

Remote sensing is one of the best ways to find out the weather since it can tell what is going to happen even if it is not close by. Remote sensing works by using radar this means there has to be radio waves for it to pick stuff up. One of the most used remote sensing device is the Doppler Radar (it is basically a ball on a tower). the way radar works is when radio waves are pulsed through the atmosphere they bounce of the persicetation in the atmosphere. If there is a lot of activity then it picks this up it then is sent to the meteorologist. This gives meteorologist a way to forecast the weather. However the radar is only one for 7 seconds every hour so that means the rest of the hour is spent waiting for signals.

Last English 6 Literature Class

This week I finished the Literature part of my English class. I really liked the class. Thanks Bradly Fish.

I read 10 books over the year. Which include: The Railway Children, Han’s Brinker and the Silver Skates, The Cat of Bubastes, Around the World in Eighty Days, A Wonder-Book for Girls and Boys, Tanglewood Tales, Swiss Family Robinson, The Story of the Treasure Seekers, Just So Stories, and The Call of the Wild. My favorite book out of all those is The Call of the Wild bu Jack London.

Some of the things I liked about this class include: I got to read a lot of books, I enjoyed how he teaches, and I liked the books that he gave me to read.

There isn’t really much I can complain about either of this course.

I hope I can do 7 grade English next year and that it will be just as good as this years.

Three Church Fathers

Polycarp.

Polycarp was a Church father and wrote some of the oldest surviving Christian works today. He was around 86 years old when the Romans killed him. He could have gone free but he didn’t because he wouldn’t recant his faith. Polycarp is known for a famous line that he said when he died he said “86 years have I have served him,and he has done me no wrong. How can I blaspheme my King and my Savior?”

Ignatius.

Ignatius was converted at a young age and most likely studied under the apostle John. Ignatius later became the Bishop of Antioch and was one of the first to say that Christians should worship on the Lord’s Day or Sunday. Ignatius was later killed by the Romans in the Coliseum. He was killed by wild animals.

Clement.

We don’t know much about him but he most likely studied under the apostle Peter. He served as the Bishop of Rome and he was killed by Emperor Trajan. He is also known for writing to the Corinthian Church and he supported the hierarchical form of Church.

Thunderstorms

A thunderstorm is a storm that is known for striking the ground with lightning or scaring people with thunder. They can cause lots of damage by hail, snow, sleet, or even tornadoes.

Thunderstorms occur in a type of cloud called cumulonimbus clouds. They are made when rapid movement upward of warm or moist air. As it moves up it condenses and then forms a cumulonimbus cloud, these cloud can be 12 miles high. As the air gets reaches its dew point temperature water vapor condenses to make water droplets or to ice. These reduces pressure in the thunderstorm cell. When the droplets fall the collide with others and then they become larger. The droplets create a downdraft as they fall which pulls cold air in and then this cold air will spread out over the Earth. This will sometimes make strong winds. These strong winds are what will sometimes make thunderstorms.

My Own Just so Story

How the First Camera was Made

A long time ago there was no camera and many people couldn’t draw well enough to show what they were doing. Well there was a tiny little Old Man who lived in a hut in Very Old England. This man was known to draw so well it looked like it was real. One day a boy by the name of Dor (He was named that because he was quite large for a child and Dor means land) came to see him to see if he could make a picture of a fort. The Old man agreed that he would and while he was drawing it Dor said ” I wish I could take you any where so that you could make a picture of any thing”. And the Old Man said ” True that would be nice since I do not get to go places often since my legs are too small. “I could take you places for you and you can draw them” said Dor. “Yes I think I will take up your offer but I will need a place to live in since I can not stay here. You would have to come get me every single time”. I have a idea that should take care of that I can put you in a box and you can live in that” Dor said. But the old man said”yes but how could I see what to draw?” and Dor then said “I could make a hole then put glass in it so that you could see through it”. Very well I will take you up on the offer” the Old Man said. “So let us begin traveling”. And that is how the first camera was made and later the Old Man trained other little people to draw as well as he so that others of the human race could have pictures of things to remember things by.
