The Differences Between the Movie Swiss Family Robbinson and the Book

Most movies that are based off of books almost always have differences from the book either to save time or because in a movie standing that doesn’t work to well. So here are some differences from the 1960 Disney movie Swiss Family Robbinson and the book of the same name.

First there is a easy to see difference and that is there are only three boys not four (the one that is missing is Jack). Instead of just having a storm come up and destroy their ship, a pirate ship chases them into the storm. (This move in my opinion was a good one for the writers) The live in the tree house the entire time instead of moving between homes like in the book. They have the holiday after the find Jenny instead of before. In the book one of the dogs dies in the movie that is not the case. That comes to the next way there is a difference because instead of a dog named Juno the is a dog named Duke. They also seem to not stay on the island as long as in the book. They don’t have as many animals. One of the sad things the didn’t have in the movie was Fang the Jackal, Jack found in the book.

Note: This version might be different then yours.

Wind Movement

We all know about wind sometime you may want it to be windier so you can fly a kite other time you wish it wouldn’t be as windy because there’s a tornado. So lets take a look at one of the best and the worst things on Earth. Wind is moving air you probably all ready know that but what causes it to move? Well air motion has three different forces.

The first one is called Pressure Gradient Force or PGF which is where high pressure areas force air to move to low pressure areas.

The next way is called the Coriolis Force. This force works when the Earth rotates because when it rotates it causes the air to move. Since the Earth moves faster at the equator then any where else. So that means if your in the northern hemisphere then the air shifts to the right but if your in the southern hemisphere then it go’s the other way. This is why when they’re are storms in the northern hemisphere go counter clock wise. It is the same way with storms in the southern hemisphere but instead the go clock wise.

And the last force is simply Friction. Friction slows wind down and also causes wind to diverge and converge wind. Diverging winds in high pressure areas sink and then warms the place if falls this causes good weather. Converging winds are in low pressure rises and then cools then some moisture condenses and forms clouds. When this happens it means bad weather.

The Early Church

After Jesus went to heaven the 12 apostles took over as the head of the church. The apostles were told by Jesus to go tell the people the gospel. Simon Peter became the apostles leader since he was one of the most enthusiastic about spreading the gospel. During Pentecost the Holy Spirit came down on the apostles and everyone who was there was able to hear the apostles speak in their language even if they were from Rome, Greece, or any other place. But there were other amazing apostles besides Peter.

  1. James. James had a temper like his brother John. They were called the sons of thunder sometimes James is also the only apostle whose death is recorded in the Bible. He is known for his passion of wanting to spread the gospel.
  2. John. John was the brother of James, and just like his brother he had a temper. John lived longer then the rest of the apostles and saw the vision of what the world would be like after Jesus came back to earth as explained in Revelation. He was also passionate about spreading the gospel.
  3. Philip. Philip led the Ethiopian court official to Christ and then baptized him. When the court official got back to Ethiopia he told more people about the gospel, and soon there was a church there.

Most of the Apostles were killed because the Jewish and the Roman officials didn’t like them spreading the gospel since it was against their religions. Christianity was always the best when the people were being punished for their faith. Many Christians died from being burned alive, killed by wild animals, or some cruel way of punishment. Even though Christianity was called evil by the Romans it later became the main religion of the Roman Empire, and it spread throughout the known world. That is not to say it isn’t currently growing as Christianity is still growing to this day.

The life of the Christ

Jesus Christ has a very interesting and brutal story but that doesn’t mean it is a bad story this story is quite good and so here it is.

Jesus is supposed to have been born in December on the 25th but that is not confirmed but when ever he was born it is still quiet an exciting story.

Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem Judea his parent Mary and Joseph had to move to Bethlehem because the was a Roman Census so they could tell how many people there where in there empire and since Joseph was decinded from David (one of the kings of the Jews) They had to move as that was Where David’s family entire family should go to get counted. When Jesus was born angels told some shepherds that he had been born and that they should go see him. The shepherds where surprised by this as they where not important people just some shepherds but they went and rejoiced when they saw him. Later when Jesus was around 2 years old wise men came to see him and gave him gold, francinses, and myer. But this wise men had told Herod the Great (the person the Romans but as the king in the land) that they had wanted to worship him but when they told Herod that Jesus was a king Herod decided to kill Jesus since he didn’t want to have someone take over his throne. So Herod killed all the male kids 2 and under but Jesus and his family escaped before they could kill Jesus. After Herod died God told Joseph to go back to Israel. And so they went back Israel and they went to the city called Nazareth where Mary and Joseph had lived before the Census. When Jesus was around 30 years old when he started his teaching to breing people to believe that he was the messiah and he would die for there sins. Jesus did many miracles before he died these included: Healing blind people, Bringing demons out of people, and healing the lame. Jesus was popular with the people but not with the Jewish priest and scribes they thought that he was a threat to there power so they plotted to have him killed.

Now Jesus also had 12 followers that where called disciples and this are the names of all of them: Simon Peter better known as Peter, John, James, Judas, Judas Iscariot, Simon, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Thaddaeus, Matthew, Thomas, and James. Most of these people would be leaders of the early church.

Now when Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Passover there where a lot of people who where laying palm leaves down as he came in though the gates of Jerusalem, many of these people would be screaming crucife him later when Jesus was killed. While in Jerusalem Judas Iscariot decided to betray Jesus to the Jewish priest they agreed and paid in 30 talents of silver for him helping them. Later Jesus is having the Last Supper with his disciples while there he says that he will die and that one of them would betray him. When Judas Iscariot ask if it his him who will betray Jesus Jesus says it is him Judas leaves very quickly after that.

Then Jesus and his disciples go to the garden of Gestheminy. While they are there Roman soldiers take Jesus to the leader of Jerusalem, Panjust Pilete. Pilete is going to judge Jesus because the priest are mad at him. Pilete decided that to keep the people happy he needs to listen to them so he says that Jesus will be crucifed. Being Crucided is one of the worst ways to die the person slowly dies from saficating while having nails in there hands and feet.

When Jesus died on the cross there was a earthquake and the curtain that seperited the holy of holies from the rest of the temple was ripped. The dead came out of there tombs and even the Roman soldiers said that Jesus was the son of God. Jesus’s body was lade in a tomb and on the third day when some people went to cover his body in spices they found the tomb empty and an angel told them that Jesus had risen. Now something amazing the disciples couldn’t have stolen the body because there where Roman soldiers guarding it. After Jesus was resaraceted he stayed on the Earth for 40 days and after those days where up he returned to heaven telling his disciples that he would some day return.

Earth’s Atmosphere

To day we are going to look at the Earth’s atmosphere. Lets start with the first layer of the Earth atmosphere the Troposphere.

The Troposphere is the lowest layer of Earth’s atmosphere. It is 10 miles high at the equator and 4 miles high at the poles. The Troposphere has 80 percent of Atmospheric mass and almost all of Earth’s water vapor. In this layer the temperature decreases as you get higher in the air. The Tropopause is the boundary between the Troposphere and the Stratosphere.

The next layer is the Stratosphere. It begins around 6-8 mile above sea level, and it ends around 31-34 miles above sea level. Jet planes can fly in the Stratosphere but propeller planes can’t. The Stratosphere has the Ozone layer which protects the Earth from the sun’s radiation making it very important. Also temperature increases as you get higher in this layer making it the exact apposite as the Troposphere. Unlike the Troposphere, the Stratosphere’s weather is calmer and while you can find some clouds in the lower part of the Stratosphere, it’s weather is usually quiet stable.

The third layer of atmosphere is called the Mesosphere. It begins around 31 miles above sea level and ends 50-53 above sea level. This layer is somewhat difficult too study as it is too high for jet planes but to low for satellites. The average temperature is -120 F. In this layer, like the Troposphere as the altitude increases the temperature gets lower. When meteors enter into this layer they, usually burn up before hitting the Earth. Also the north and south poles lights take place in this layer.

The Fourth layer is called the Thermosphere, and it begins around 50 miles above sea level and ends around 310- 620 miles above sea level. The International Space Station is in this layer and orbits around 200-240 miles above sea level. The temperature can go up to 2700 F but since there is low atmospheric pressure it would feel very cold. In this layer the temperature increases as altitude increases. The Ionosphere, is in this layer which protect us against the sun’s solar radiation.

The fifth and final layer is the Exosphere. This layer begins around 700 miles above sea level and ends around 6200 miles above sea level. Most satellites orbit the Earth in this layer. This layer doesn’t give way to another layer. It simply begins to get thinner and thinner and then simply gives way to space.

Augustus Caesar

Augustus Caesar was the first Roman emperor. How did he become emperor? Well it took a lot of people dying, him betraying people, and him getting revenge. So lets look at the first Roman emperor.

Augustus Caesar was born in Velletri Italy in 63 BC. His great uncle, Julius Caesar, adopted him and raised him like his son. Nothing really happened for him until Julius Caesar was killed. Then thing started to happen.

First he left Rome for a time so that he wouldn’t be killed by the senate. Then when he returned he made an alliance with Mark Anothey and Lepidus called the Second Triumvirate. When Mark Anothey split Rome’s territory in half, one for himself and one for Augustus. Augustus decided to fight him since he wanted to be the only ruler.

After beating Mark Anothey he became the sole ruler of Rome. But even though this sounds bad he was able to keep Rome at peace for a longer time than Rome had experienced in a while. He also helped improve Rome and he even got the Senate to help him. Plus to prevent from him getting killed by the army and to prevent Rome from experiencing another power struggle, he had the army reduced. He lived till 14 AD and was made a god by the Romans.

Desalination

The use of water in the world today is high: drinking water, water for plants, and more. Most water for plants and all water that humans can drink needs to be freshwater. Since most of the world’s water is saltwater the need for freshwater could get high as there would be too many people who would need it and not enough water to supply them. However there is a way to turn saltwater into freshwater and the way to do it is called desalination.

Here is how one way they desalination water. This method is called distillation.

First saltwater (after it is at the place where they will desalination it of course) is heated up to evaporating point and when that happens all the minerals will not go with the steam as they will be left in the bottom of what is being used to desalination the water. Then condensation will change the steam back into water.

Another way to turn saltwater into freshwater is called reverse osmosis. Here is how it works.

This way doesn’t use heat instead it uses pressure to remove the minerals. The way they do this is simple. Water molecules are pushed into a membrane which will leave the minerals behind.

These are the two main examples of water desalination. They are surprisingly simple, and I was surprised by this. There are of course other ways of desalination but these to are the two main ways to do it.
